Rainbow Rice Krispies Treats

I randomly had a craving for marshmallows, so I bought a bag. Objectively I knew I wouldn’t eat that much of the bag but it was on sale. I was left with an entire bag (minus 3) of marshmallows. So I decided to knock another item off my dessert bucket list: rainbow Rice Krispies treats. My sister used to make the non-rainbow version, so this recipe brings back especially fond memories for me.

The recipe requires you to move relatively quickly, and then I accidentally gave them all away before I could take more pictures. So I only have the following picture.



  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1 package Jet-Puffed marshmallows (the normal sized ones)
  • 4 cups Rice Krispies
  • 3 cups Fruity Pebbles


  1. Lay out two sheets of aluminum foil to cover around a 20’x’20’ square on a flat surface (such as your kitchen table). Make sure that they overlap a bit. This is where you’ll press and shape your treats.
  2. Mix together the Rice Krispies and Fruity Pebbles until they are evenly distributed. Set aside.
  3. Melt butter in a large nonstick pot/saucepan.
  4. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted.
  5. Remove from heat.
  6. Add the cereal mixture and stir until cereal is evenly coated.
  7. Using a spatula, move the mixture onto the foil. Evenly flatten the mixture to desired thickness. Cut into squares.


  • This recipe is mostly based off of the original one from the Rice Krispies box which can also be found here. The original recipe calls for only 6 cups total of cereal, but the treats from my childhood were crunchier so I upped the cereal amount. You can lower it to 3 1/2 cups Rice Krispies, 2 1/2 cups Fruity Pebbles for a chewier treat.
  • Removing the treats from the foil can be a struggle. Perhaps using wax paper would be better, but my sister always used foil, and so that is what I used.
  • These are best enjoyed immediately, but can be stored in an airtight container lined with foil/wax paper for a least a month.
  • It can be tempting to up the Fruity Pebbles to Rice Krispies ratio so that the treats will be prettier/more colorful. Unless you have a love of very sweet things, I would advise against it, as these are already very sweet.
